Want to be part of the show?

Bright Club is about fun and finding out - that's true for both the audience and the performers.

Training is provided, but to get a good idea about what happens at a Bright Club we recommend seeing a show first.  You can also get a feel for how it works - the different ways performers have blended the funny and the interesting - and the huge range of topics covered - you can also check out the videos on YouTube. Some of these have gone a lot further than the audience on the night.

At time of writing:

Philip Wadler's performance on computability has 12.5 thousand views (yes, that Philip Wadler so you know it's all correct)

Jenny Wood's performance on town planning has 2.8 thousand views (Jenny is now co-director at A Place in Childhood)

Gianfranco Matrone's performance on zebrafish breeding has 2.3 thousand views (Gianfranco wrote about overcoming his fear of public speaking here)

Robbie Cooper's performance on testicular cancer has 1.6 thousand views (RIP Robbie you fucking eagle)

Zara Gladman's performance in the very first Bright Club Edinburgh has 1.5 thousand views. (You might now Zara better these days as Glasgow west end mum on the TikToK)

As of 2024 Bright Club Edinburgh is led by Bekka and Kat - academics at the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier University. A huge thanks from me - "the bit of Bright Club Edinburgh that is called Dan (Ridley-Ellis)" to everyone who has performed over the years and come to the shows. I suppose we could have done it without you, but it would have been really weird and awkward. Huge thanks to everyone that helped organise shows - especially Robin Andrews and Andy MacLeod who have been behind the curtain since the start and the team at the Edinburgh Beltane Beacon for Public Engagement that started it all off in Scotland. Thanks also to Sarah West-Alin who created the iconic duck that has spread far beyond Edinburgh.

Psst… we are offering our first training session for Bright Club 2024 on Sunday 14th Jan, 3.30-6.30pm at The Stand, Edinburgh!

Come along to this taster session to tread the boards, hear from veterans about the Bright Club experience, and get tips on finding the funny, managing stage fright, and microphone technique. Interested? Let us know on our socials or email Brightclubedin@gmail.com  #returnofthequack
